My winter training was successful and I completed the most amount of time on the bike than I ever have before which left me feeling fantastic going into the racing. Galloway – as ever – provided the perfect training routes and I spent many hours around every lane in the region, soaking up the views, getting cold feet and having cheeks so cold and frozen that it would make a Botox surgeon out of business.
My season of races started when the word Coronavirus was something distant in Wuhan that you heard about on the news. My training kilometres paid off and got 5th at THE early season race ‘Eddie Soens Memorial’ and featured in Cycling Weekly, then a 10th place at a Scottish National Round followed by a victory in Liverpool – beating several pros in the process.
Now, unfortunately yet necessary, all racing has been cancelled until the 30th of June. As a result, I had a week off the bike last week to mentally reset and now I’m back building towards a heavily packed autumn of racing.
