The Holywood Trust

The Holywood Trust is a charitable organisation which aims to help young people in Dumfries and Galloway. It gives grants to individuals and organisations, creating opportunities for young people in the region. The Trust is currently reviewing its priorities, but is particularly interested in: • Providing opportunities for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in our region • Encouraging talented young people in Dumfries and Galloway • Helping improve creative and cultural opportunities across the region • Supporting imaginative and inspirational approaches We focus primarily on young people aged 15 – 25 years. However we will also consider supporting vulnerable younger children for preventative measures in relation to health or social disadvantage, or if the activities are particularly inspirational! The Trust is administered by a Board of Trustees and a professional staff based in Dumfries.

The LGS Community Trust has now taken over Lochvale House for nearly six months. We have made many changes to the building and are very proud of our achievements so far. Our first job was to get the cafe updated and ready for lease as we felt it would make a positive impact on the building and the community. We have seen many children, parents, families,groups and businesses use this service. SLICE Lochvale House have now been in the building for 3 months and have made a fantastic contribution to bringing in new faces to the building and you will all agree there cakes are fantastic. Today’s announcement of £1.35 million funding to roll out ‘trauma training’ is fantastic news for children, families and communities across Scotland.

It reflects our belief, outlined in our new Strategic Priorities, that childhood adversity, and the resulting trauma it causes, is the single biggest health and social care issue affecting children and families in Scotland today.

Our Interim Chief Executive, Mary Glasgow, said: “Skilling up support workers to sensitively recognise, respond to and support parents to recover from their own unresolved childhood trauma can prevent and protect children from harmful experiences and strengthen communities – which benefits us all.”
