HOLYWOOD ASSISTANCE TO NEEDY AND DISADVANTAGED YOUNGSTERS
(in Dumfries and Galloway)

Our HANDY (Holywood Assistance to Needy and Disadvantaged Youngsters) Fund is provided by BBC Children In Need in Scotland and is applied for each year.

The Fund has been established to provide for individual welfare payments to disadvantaged children and young people who are recommended to us by third party professional who are aware of their family circumstances, (education officials, social workers, health visitors, staff of voluntary sector organisations). It is likely that they will come from situations involving family breakdown, social, physical or mental difficulties, or situations involving stress and low income. In general terms where there is deprivation, a medical condition or similar difficulty.

Awards of up to £100 per child per year will be considered. The purpose to which the award is applied must be of direct benefit to the child (eg. to provide clothing/ footwear; beds and bedding - where incontinence is a problem; or a buggy to allow children to access opportunities outside their home).

It is expected that the professional body involved will oversee the appropriate use of any award and that receipts are sent to us as soon as possible after purchase of the specified items.

Application Procedure

Applications to the fund should be made by the third-party professional working with the child(ren) in the form of a letter to:

THE NITHSDALE TRUST
The Nithsdale Trust is a non profit making charity which was established in 1988 in response to homelessness issues for young people in Dumfries. In association with the Homelessness Department of Dumfries & Galloway Council, accommodation with support for young single homeless people is provided in two properties close to Dumfries town centre. The accommodation is intended as a route towards a lifestyle which is as self supporting as possible. THE LOCHBANK TRUST
The Lochbank Trust is concerned to see the issue of drugs misuse addressed, and is particularly interested in the rebuilding of lives that have been devastated by drugs. The Trust is a registered Charity whose Trustees are local interested individuals.

We carry out a wide range of work which includes: education about drug misuse/prevention programmes; outreach work; supporting the establishment of self-help groups, such as groups for those touched by others addictions; providing employment opportunities; establishing and maintaining residential support centres. The dedicated team of staff and volunteers seek opportunities to support those who are currently living with addiction through to those who are in the final (and often most difficult) stages of reclaiming their lives by staying free of drugs and rejoining their communities.

Help for those who are beginning their new life without drugs is provided by our residential centre. Work in the centre places a high value on the individual needs of each person we work with, but in return we require a firm commitment from them to let us help them. In our residential centre we only work with those who are drug free and are committed to remaining so. In expecting this dedication, we in return give our commitment, time and support to the individual to help them rebuild their lives and move on.

The Trust it is founded on strong Christian principles with many of the management, staff and volunteers being committed Christians however, we welcome those from other faiths or none at all.
