Dumfries & Galloway Multi-Cultural Association is an organisation open to all members of ethnic, religious and cultural minority communities in Dumfries and Galloway to help people to integrate into Scottish society and play their full part and to prevent discrimination and make everyone aware of the benefits of diverse cultures living together in the region.

The Holywood Trust provided a 2 year grant to support the Minority Youth Project and the employment of a part time Youth Development Worker.

The objectives of this grant are:

  • Make young people from Minority Communities active members of their local community
  • Make young people from Minority Communities active members of their school
  • Make young people from Minority Communities participate in local youth groups
  • Give opportunity to young people from Minority Communities learn new skills out of school environment
  • Help young people from Minority Communities to be able to use main stream services available in the region.
  • Encourage young people from Minority Communities transfer the new skills they learned to their own communities.

The project engages a wide group of young people ages 11-25 years primarily, although not exclusively, from minority communities across Dumfries and Galloway. The project assists young people in their personal development and increasing self-confidence through the provision of weekly workshops, activities, youth conferences and educational trips. Being part of the Minority Youth Project offers a chance to highlight issues that matter to young minority youth. It also brings opportunities to develop new skills and working and planning as a team.
